In the quest for greater love and understanding of a psychedelic fairy tale about a girl who battles robots and, in doing so, teaches us about love, death, and what it means to be human, a graphic book detailing the story of Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots is set to be released later this year, according to the band and Third Man Books, the book’s publisher.
Within days of the announcement, the first run of books has already sold out.
From the mind of Wayne Coyne, the book chronicles Yoshimi’s odyssey against the Pink Robots through words and one-of-a-kind original illustrations all composed within a 420-page hardcover book.
Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots is both a concept album and a dreamlike story that blends science fiction, philosophy, and emotion. The album tells the story of a young woman who must battle an army of giant pink robots threatening humanity. But beneath that sci-fi imagery lies a metaphor for human struggle — courage, mortality, love, and the fight against internal “robots” like fear, depression, or the inevitability of death.
From a promotion posted to the band’s social media, the book appears to be a collection of art and words blended together. The art was hand created by Wayne, which was then archived and cataloged by Blake Studdard using table-top photography methods.
Pre-orders received by Thursday, November 6, would be personalized by Coyne himself. There is no word yet on any additional printings of the books.
